BOSTON – House Minority Leader Bradley H. Jones, Jr. (R-North Reading) is pleased to announce that he has appointed Representative Sheila Harrington (R-Groton) to several key legislative committees for the 2015-2016 session.

Representative Harrington has been named as the Ranking Minority Member of the Joint Committee on the Judiciary and the Assistant Ranking Minority Member of the House Committee on Rules. The Groton Representative will also serve as a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means.

The House Committee on Rules is primarily concerned with scheduling and consideration of legislation in the House of Representatives. The House Committee on Ways and Means is primarily concerned with writing the House’s version of the state budget, and reconciling differences between the Senate and House versions of the budget.

“As an attorney, Representative Harrington has a wealth of real-world knowledge and expertise in our legal system that will serve her well on the Judiciary Committee,” said Representative Jones. “She also has a clear understanding of the many fiscal challenges facing our cities and towns, and I am confident she will do an outstanding job representing her district with her new committee assignments.”

“I am pleased to receive my committee assignments from the Minority Leader,” said Representative Harrington. “I look forward to working with my colleagues this session to ensure that the state does not spend beyond its means while also continuing to be a vocal advocate for increased local aid.”

Representative Harrington represents the First Middlesex District, which consists of the communities of Ashby, Dunstable, Groton, Pepperell, Townsend and Precinct 1 in Ayer. She is currently serving her third term in the Massachusetts Legislature.
